The Old City of Jerusalem has been a focal point of religious and cultural significance for over two millennia. In 70 CE, during the First Jewish-Roman War, the city fell to Roman forces led by General Titus, resulting in the destruction of the Second Temple. This event marked a profound transformation in Jewish history and identity, leading to a long period of exile and longing for the city.
Fast forward to the mid-1900s, Jerusalem became a battleground during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Following the declaration of the State of Israel, the city was divided, with the western part under Israeli control and the eastern part, including the Old City, falling to Jordanian forces.
Throughout its tumultuous history, archaeology in Jerusalem has unveiled layers of civilization, revealing artifacts that tell the stories of its diverse inhabitants.
